ITI - NCVT Courses

Craftsman training scheme in Kerala is a joint effort of National Council for Vocational Training (NCVT) under Ministry of Labour - Government of India and Government of Kerala. The training scheme is intended to create skilled technical manpower requirement for various engineering and non engineering departments all over the world. At grass root level engineering technicians are craftsmen who do the actual technical work in engineering workshops and industries. Craftsmen are those who assist engineer in research and development, manufacturing, inspection and maintenance. The ever increasing demand of skilled technicians are existing all over the world.

a. Electronic Mechanic

This course is introduced by NCVT, Ministry of Labour, Government of India, considering the great and urgent need felt for trained manpower in the field of Electronics and communication, as a result of ever growing industrial development and rapid technological advancement. In a survey conducted by the Department of Electronics, Government of India, about the future requirement of trained manpower in the operation of sophisticated Electronic equipments, it has been revealed that there is an acute shortage of trained people in the field of Electronics. The course is meant to train youngsters to operate, maintain, service, repair and manufacture complicated Electronic equipments.

Employment opportunities exist in the manufacture and servicing of Television, DVD, Telephones, Computers etc. The field of Electronics is developing at the rate of 20% in India.

  Minimum Qualification   :   S.S.L.C. and above

b. Architectural Assistant

The Architectural Assistant also known as a Building Technologist, provides building design services and solutions and is trained in architectural technology, building design and construction. They apply the science of architecture and typically concentrate on the technology of building design and construction. They may negotiate the construction project, and manage the process from conception through to completion.

Most architectural technologists are employed in architectural and engineering firms, or with municipal authorities; but many provide independent professional services directly to clients, although restricted by law in some countries. Others work in product development or sales with manufacturers.

In Britain (Chartered Architectural Technologist), Canada (Architectural Technologist or Applied Science Technologist), and other nations, they have many similar abilities as Architects and can work alongside them. There, they are sometimes directors or shareholders of an architectural firm (where permitted by the jurisdiction and legal structure).

c. Health Sanitary Inspector

A Health Inspector or Environmental Health Specialist is a public employee who investigates health hazards in a wide variety of locations, then will take action to mitigate or eliminate the hazards. Usually the public perception of a health inspector is someone who examines restaurants and ensures they maintain sanitary standards for food safety set by the regulating authority. However, most health inspectors have broader job duties, including inspecting swimming pools, substandard housing conditions, public schools, day cares, nursing homes, and personal service establishments such as tattoo parlours. Depending on their jurisdiction, Registered Environmental Health Specialists often permit and inspect wells, private water systems, or individual subsurface sewage disposal (septic) systems. Other tasks include, public swimming pool inspections, campground inspections and mobile home park inspection.

They may also investigate complaints relating to the above areas, as well as other environmental health concerns such as animal bites, garbage complaints, odor complaints, or sewage overflows. The field also overlaps with Hazmat and many Hazmat responders are also licensed Registered Environmental Health Specialists.

d. Mechanic Diesel

At grass root level mechanics are craftsmen who do the actual technical work in workshops and industrial establishments because of this job opportunity is very higher for those who successfully complete this training in Automobile industry and diesel plants. On successful completion of this one year course, one will be eligible to get selected as locomotive assistants, work supervisor etc. in different government departments and industrial establishments.

Introduction of Kerala Government Certificate Examination in Engineering (Revised new scheme)

In the old scheme the syllabus was in such a way that a lot of irrelevant and monotonous theory portions, for instance, applied mechanics, hydraulics, mathematics etc. were included. The diverse aspects relating to the revival of the K.G.C.E. courses have been studied and the revised scheme of studies and scheme of examination have been finalised. Emphasis is given for more practicals. Theory subjects are simplified so as to make them easy to understand for a student of low educational background, making the course purely job oriented.

Medium of Instruction and Examination
The medium of instruction as well as that of examination will be both English and Malayalam.

Admission Requirements
The minimum qualification for Admission to the courses will be SSLC or equivalent. The age of the candidate for admission to the first year class as on 1 July of this year should not be below 14 years or above 25 years. There will be a relaxation of three years in the upper age limit for scheduled caste candidates, for admission.

Civil Engineering and Draughtsmanship course mainly deals with building industry. The Training in this course embraces building, drawing, and estimations, reinforced concrete technology, planning and orientation of buildings, building construction materials, designing of buildings, bridges, dams, etc. The demand for Civil Engineer is very high.

Scope

Regulations for Kerala Government Certificate Examination in Engineering

i. The examinations will be conducted by the Controller of Technical Examinations Government of Kerala.
ii. Candidates for the K.G.C.E. in Engineering (Revised scheme) must have passed S.S.L.C. or equivalent course and must have completed the prescribed course of study in the concerned branch for years in a private Engineering Institution duly recognised by the Government securing not less than 80% attendance.
iii. A candidate, securing a minimum of 40% marks in each theory paper and 45% marks in practical examinations. Practical examinations will be declared to have passed the examination.
iv. a) a candidate passing all the subjects in one sitting securing an aggregate of 60% marks and above will be declared to have passed the examination in the First Class.
b) a candidate passing all the subjects in one sitting securing an aggregate of 50% marks and above but below 60% Second class.
c) All other successful candidate will be declared to have passed the examination in the Third class.
v. Candidates who fail in more than two theory papers (including the drawing paper) will have to reappear for the whole examination in the subsequent sitting. In the case of other candidates, they will be required to only for the failed subjects in the subsequent sitting.
vi. Candidates will not be allowed to register for the examination piece meal. They shall register for all the subjects in which they have to pass either in the first or subsequent sitting. Contravention of this rule will lead to the candidates being treated as "absent" for the entire Examination.
vii. A candidate will not be allowed to appear for the examination (either theory or practical for more than four chances). They will have to pass the whole examination within the four changes. This clause will be applicable for both old and new Scheme students.
viii. There will be no supplementary examinations.
ix. Certificates will be issued to all the successful candidates by the Controller of Technical Examinations of Kerala. Duration of the courses and hours of work
1. The institute will work 5 days a week from Monday to Friday except on public holidays.
2. The actual working hours per day will be 6 hours.
3. The academic year will be 1st July to 30th April.
4. The institute will remain closed during Onam and Christmas holidays as notified by the Director of Technical Education.
3 Year Engineering Diploma (IETE)

There is alternate route to the students those who fail in getting admission to Diploma at Polytechnic Colleges, as they fail to meet minimum mark required for admission. The Institution of Electronics and Tele Communication Engineers conducts examination and it is considered equivalent to Diploma in Engineering.

Ideal Technical Institute is conducting Diploma coaching classes as per IETE syllabus to prepare the students to appear for DIP IETE Examinations. Examinations will be conducted by IETE twice in a year in the month of June and December. Candidates can select examination center from the center approved by IETE. At present there are three exam centres in Kerala state at Ernakulam, Palakkad and Trivandrum. Students must get student membership in IETE at their own expense.

Diploma level examination conducted by IETE is recognized by Govt. of India as equal to 3 Years Polytechnic Diploma. On successful completion of Section A & B subjects, Project work and practical examination as per the regulations prescribed by IETE from time to time shall be awarded Diploma certificate by IETE.
