ELECTRONICS & COMMUNICATION ENGINEERING

This Engineering course is introduced by the Kerala Government considering the great and urgent need feit for trained manpower in the field of electronics and communication, as a result of ever growing industrial development and rapid technological advancement. In a survey conducted by the department of Electronics, Government of India, about the future requirement of trained manpower in the operation of sophisticated electronic equipments, it has been revealed that there is an acute shortage of trained people in the field of electronics. This course is meant to train youngsters to operate, maintain, service, repair and manufacture complicated electronics and communication equipments.

SCOPE
Employment opportunities exist in the manufacture and servicing of television, V.C.D., radio, telephones, Computers, transmitters, railways, etc. The field of electronics is developed at the rate of 20% in India. CIVIL ENGINEERING

This course is introduced by Government of Kerala with a view to equip the trainees with practical and theoretical training of Civil Engineering. Civil Engineering and Draughtsmanship course mainly deals with building industry. The Training in this course embraces building, drawing, and estimations, reinforced concrete technology, planning and orientation of buildings, building construction materials, designing of buildings, bridges, dams, etc. The demand for Civil Engineer is very high.

SCOPE
Qualification in this trade provides ample job opportunities not only in our country but also in the gulf regions. Practice as registered consultant with municipalities and corporation. Draughtsman with architects, overseers, tracers, designers and surveyors with government, quasi-government, and private organisations.

In the field of engineering, with such broad applications, an ambitious man can build up a wonderful career in this branch of technology. There is a great and urgent demand for refrigeration and air conditioning engineers all over the world, especially Persian Gulf countries.The students are given exhaustive training in the repair, servicing, maintenance and overhauling of refrigerator, water coolers, room airconditioner, central and packaged type air conditioning systems and various types of other refrigeration machineries and plants.

This engineering course is introduced by Kerala Government considering the need felt for trained manpower in the field of radio and television^Radio and Television are sophisticated electronic equipments than many others. The demand for radio and television is growing rapidly in urban as well as rural areas in our country. The number of indigenous as well as imported Radio and Television in our country, is very large. As time passes there will be an ever growing demand for trained persons, provisioned in repairing, servicing and assembling these complex electronic devices.

SCOPE
Employment opportunities exist in radio and television manufacturing units such as Keltron, Teltronix, BPL, Hendez etc. and numerous other units coming up in Kerala as well as in the whole of India. Servicing units can also be set up as a self employment programme.

For those who find it difficult to learn mathematics and otherTneory portions, importance is given to practical along with other theory portions. Job placement opportunities are abundant for this branch in India as well as in abroad. This course is also beneficial for those who seek self-employment.There is no doubt about job opportunities like Motor vehicle Inspector, Motor mechanic in Kerala and outside. More practicals arranged than in the syllabus.

REGULATIONS FOR KERALA GOVERNMENT CERTIFICATE EXAMINATION IN ENGINEERING

i. The examinations will be conducted by the Controller of Technical Examinations Government of Kerala.
ii. Candidates for the K.G.C.E. in Engineering (Revised scheme) must have completed S.S.L.C. or equivalent course (S.S.L.C. Passed/Failed.) and must have completed the prescribed course of study in the concerned branch for years in a private Engineering Institution duly recognised by the Government securing not less than 80% attendance.
iii. A candidate, securing a minimum of 40% marks in each theory paper and 45% marks in practical examinations. Practical examinations will be declared to have passed the examination.
iv. a) a candidate passing all the subjects in one sitting securing an aggregate of 60% marks and above will be declared to have passed the examination in the First Class.
b) a candidate passing all the subjects in one sitting securing an aggregate of 50% marks and above but below 60% Second class.
c) All other successful candidate will be declared to have passed the examination in the Third class.
v. Candidates who fail in more than two theory papers (including the drawing paper) will have to reappear for the whole examination in the subsequent sitting. In the case of other candidates, they will be required to only for the failed subjects in the subsequent sitting.
vi. Candidates will not be allowed to register for the examination piece meal. They shall register for all the subjects in which they have to pass either in the first or subsequent sitting. Contravention of this rule will lead to the candidates being treated as "absent" for the entire Examination.
vii. A candidate will not be allowed to appear for the examination (either theory or practical for more than four chances). They will have to pass the whole examination within the four changes. This clause will be applicable for both old and new Scheme students.
viii. There will be no supplementary examinations.
ix. Certificates will be issued to all the successful candidates by the Controller of Technical Examinations of Kerala.

DURATION OF THE COURSES AND HOURS OF WORK
1.    The institute will work 5 days a week from Monday to Friday except on public holidays.
2.     The actual working hours per day will be 6 hours.
3.    The academic year will be 1st July to 30th April.
4.    The institute will remain closed during Onam and Christmas holidays as notified by the Director of Techni cal Education.
